Biographical Info
The seed of Bay Area Open Minds came out of a personal experience of being Othered in grad school. It was 2009 and my first week at my psychology program. As an assignment for an intercultural diversity class, we were encouraged to go to Folsom Street Fair to "experience a different culture." Spurred by this microaggression, I stumbled upon an underground network of other altsex-positive folks within the field. This journey eventually led me to Dr. Keely Kolmes. After hearing about my experience, Keely decided to create Bay Area Open Minds. An organization of likeminded therapists, a directory for clients, and a space to promote psychoeducation and civic engagement. In addition to being a founding member of Open Minds, I have been a private practice psychologist for 8 years. With over a decade of experience as a therapist, I also have prior experience as a coach and trainer. My clinical expertise and personal identification with ethical non-monogamy, kink/BDSM, pansexuality and gender fluidity allows me to bridge the gap between these worlds and the venue of therapy. Inhabiting a shared reality can be a vital component to the work, permitting you as the client to feel validated and more deeply understood. I work extensively within the intersection of BIPOC (I am Filipinx-American), LGBTQ+ and Ethical Non-Monogamy. I utilize a mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral approach (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) combined with Somatic Experiencing, parts work (Internal Family Systems, ACA reparenting, NLP) and transpersonal interventions (Dr Stephen Gilligan's Generative Trancework; Shamanic Journey). --- ANNOUNCEMENT: GoddessCentric- Femme (cis, trans, nonbinary) GSRD, BIPOC+ Meditation & Trancework support group Online group.
